Thar (Surname) of the Newars

अंग्रेजी अध्येता H.A. Oaldfield ले सन् १८१८ आफ्नो Sketches of Nepal मा नेवार बौद्ध धर्मावलम्बी नेभार र नेभार भेरी थरका मानिस रहेको उल्लेख गरेका छन्। नेभार थरका मानिसहरू सुन तथा चाँदीका गरगहना बनाउने गर्थे भने  नेभार भेरीले कांस्य र फलामका देव-देवीका मूर्ति तथा खाना पकाउने भाँडा बनाउने गर्थे। हाल आएर यी थरहरू अस्तित्वमा नरहेकाले यीनै थरहरू अपभ्रंश भएर नेवा र नेवार थर भएको अनुमान लगाउन सकिन्छ।  The English scholar H.A. Oldfield, in his Sketches of Nepal published in 1818, mentioned the existence of Newar Buddhists belonging to the "Nebhar" and "Nebhar Bheri" clans. According to his account, individuals from the Nebhar clan specialized in crafting gold and silver ornaments, while those from the Nebhar Bheri clan were known for making bronze and iron idols of deities as well as cookware.
