Yogal
Yanga Hiti: is the ancestral homeland of the majority Newar subgroup known as Yogol of Dhulikhel. Prior to Nepal Sambat 790, the Gunakar Singh is believed to have migrated from Yanga to Dhulikhel. From his six sons, the family lineage spread throughout Dhulikhel and other areas.
It is assumed that shortly after King Pratap Malla took control over the seven villages of Banepa, he appointed Gunakar Singh to take administrative charge of Dhulikhel.
The ‘Singh’ lineage of Yanga is believed to have gradually transformed into the place specific surname ‘Yogal’ over time. Since Yogal is mentioned as the administrative head of that era, it can be considered to be a Chathariya Shrestha. Moreover, as the ‘Singh’ surname is typically used by the Kayastha caste, it is assumed that the Yogal surname is a sub-lineage of the Kayastha caste.
