थापा

नेवार समुदायमा 'थापा' थर कसरी आयो भन्ने जिज्ञासा उठ्न सक्छ। नेपालको इतिहास हेर्दा, विभिन्न क्षेत्री, तामाङ र मगर समुदायका व्यक्तिहरूले मल्ल राजाको पक्षमा युद्ध लडेको उल्लेख पाइन्छ। त्यस्तै, खड्का र रानामगरहरूले नुवाकोटमा पृथ्वी नारायण शाहको फौज विरुद्ध युद्ध गरेका थिए। खड्का र मगर (राना मगर र थापा मगर) हरू भने नेवार समुदायभन्दा पृथक् रहेर आफ्नै रीति-रिवाज पालना गर्दै उपत्यकाका सहर वरिपरिका क्षेत्रहरूमा बसोबास गरे।

यस्तै, मल्ल राजाको तर्फबाट युद्ध लडेका केही 'थापाहरू भने नेवार समुदायमा नै घुलमिल भए। उनीहरूले नेवार संस्कृतिलाई अँगाले र कालान्तरमा नेवार समुदायको अभिन्न हिस्सा बने। र थापा श्रेष्ठका रूपमा पनि चिनिन्छ।

Thapa

There may be curiosity about how the surname 'Thapa' became part of the Newar community. Looking at Nepal's history, it is mentioned that Chhetri, Tamang, and Magar communities fought on behalf of the Malla kings. Similarly, Khadka Chhetri and Rana Magar fought against Prithvi Narayan Shah's forces in Nuwakot on behalf of Malla Kings. However, the Khadka and Magar (Rana and Thapa) community remained distinct from the Newar community, maintaining their own traditions and settling in the suburb areas of the Kathmandu Valley.

In a similar way, some 'Thapas' who fought on behalf of the Malla kings conglomerated into the Newar community. They adopted Newar culture and, over time, became an integral part of the Newar society. They are also known as Thapa Shrestha.
